Elves of Salendrei, Naramoor, Ibrekt, and the Exiles
Elves, similar to most of the other races of Ios are all the descendants of humans changed by the various magics that have found their way into the material plane. Elves originate from humans who dwelt too close to areas of fae magic. It’s hotly debated among elven academics whether forests spawn from areas where the faewild crosses over with the material plane or whether the faewild tends to cross over into the material plane where forests already are, either way elves naturally adapted to the conditions in forests and the fae magics of the forest. Due to this intimate connection to the naturally chaotic magic of the fae there are two different kinds of elves, the more primal and chaotic elves that still reside near the fae, and the more scholarly and civilized elves that have adopted the more civilized tenancies of their human side. Often these two factions have clashed within elven society similar to how rural communities and urban communities clash within human civilization. The elves more in tune with the fae magic also tend to have the temporally confused magics expanding their lifespan to two times that of a human while the more civilized elves only live about one and a half human lifespans(same with dwarves).
The areas of Ios with the most intense fae magics can be found in the sprawling Godwood in Salendrei, the snowy pines of Pestros in Naramoor, and the shadowy groves of Ibrekt. The fae magics in other forests of the world were not strong enough to fully transform and evolve their people’s into elves which begs the question; Why are there many different elven civilizations scattered away from these hubs? The answer traces back uncounted millenia that even the mighty dragons have forgotten. During an era of the material plane when dragons ruled, the Age of the Burned Sky. During this period humans served as vassals to the many different kinds of dragons and fought in the near endless wars the dragons had among themselves.
The details of this era shall be expanded on later, the elves saw the intensified conflict toward the end of this age and many of the more fearful ones fled fully into the fae in the hopes that they could return once the conflict died down. The “Eladrin” furthur changed in the face of these fae magics and some would return to the material plane many centuries later, most finding themselves in strange lands far from where they left. The Eladrin are the rather mysterious faction of elves who have fully committed to remaining in the fae wild. The often maligned as “degenerate” half-elves primarily manifest on the material plane as children between loving humans and elves, while half elves among the exiles are descendants of humans kidnapped from their villages by malicious fae.
Most non Fey recognise the handywork of most weaponry wielded by Eladrin, and Fey Lords. The half-elves were adopted as lower class servants by Fey royalty centuries ago for the purposes of cheap manufacturing of weaponry and munitions on a grand scale, despite the relatively low number of these half-elves they were tasked with manufacturing weapons at the rate of what can be considered the work of 10 men. Their role in daily life of the Fey court has shifted dramatically over time. While the bulk of the half-elves populations remains in the lower circles of the Feywild, elven nobles and Faerie Lords take on groups of favored servants who individually specialize in mundane skills cooks, barbers, and Performers are commonly employed. Recognition by nobility is highly sought after representing a rise in standard of living, though is as commonly associated with madness as many Fey sprites find endless amusement in pranking and distracting those attempting to concentrate on their craft. It is claimed a Boggart drove a Half-Elf singer tasked with perfecting a single song to rip out her hair in frustration. Though not unheard of the Fey courts hold it taboo for half-elves to gain great proficiency in the arcane art, as magical education is seen as a trait of the higher classes maintaining power in the social order. However recently it is found that half-elves developed their own approach to the magical traditions, in quiet rebellion.
