Lore: The Tusks and the Trunk are the centerpiece of Loxodon culture. The Tusks symbolize the warrior’s strength and ferocity in battle while the Trunk represents the seer’s wisdom and connection with the Great Stampede(their “deity”). The Great Stampede is a endless herd of elephants who guide the Loxodon through hardship and protect them from the evils of the gnoll deceivers. In exchange for this protection and guidance the Stampede asks for a Loxodon to protect his family first, his honor second, and his home third.
Loxodon place great emphasis on the exact measurements of one’s tusks and trunk(often down to the hair, their smallest measurement). Stemming from this, Loxodon have great appreciation for exact measurements and values and are extremely frugal with their money and resources. Another aspect of their emphasis on the tusks and trunk comes in how they punish criminals who disrespect the 17 codes(their chief document of law, every tribe has a copy in some form). One of the most severe punishments for a Loxodon is the removal of a tusk(only beneath death and permanent exile). This marks the criminal for life as an oathbreaker, isolating them from their tribe and society for the rest of their life.
Loxodon females are almost categorically considered inferior to Loxodon males, due to their lack of tusks. This weakness often leaves them with the more mundane duties(farming, gathering, cooking, watching children, etc).
Loxodon government is also derived from the tusks/trunk, with the death of a chieftain leading to a measuring ceremony where each male has his trunk and tusks measured and the male with the largest tusks/trunk(preferably both) is appointed as the new chieftain.
Loxodon tend to be about 11 to 13 feet tall and weight between 700 and 1100 pounds
The Great Stampede – LN: Protection, Glory, War, Animal, Community. Favored weapon: Gore. Put simply the Great Stampede is a collective of every Loxodon who’s ever died and they believe that their ancestors watch over them and guide them toward the truth(and away from the Gnoll deceivers) if they follow the 17 Codes
